The creator of Attack on Titan, Hajime Isayama, has revealed his current favorite hero of the series during his panel at Anime NYC.

Contrary to popular belief, his favorite hero is not Eren Jaeger, the main protagonist of the series, but rather Jean Kirstein, an Eldian soldier who initially joined the military to secure a comfortable job watching over the Paradis’ royalty but eventually found his calling on the frontlines of battle.

Jean is a character that has remained an integral part of the franchise despite not possessing the power to transform into a Titan like other key characters.

The revelation of Jean being the creator’s favorite character may come as a surprise to fans of the series, as Eren is often regarded as the hero of Attack on Titan. The shift in focus towards Jean can potentially mean that the character will play a more significant role in the upcoming final battle against Eren, the new Founding Titan who aims to eliminate all those living outside of Paradis island.

It’s also interesting to note the influence of Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad on the series, as revealed by Isayama during the panel. This is not the first time that Attack on Titan has been compared to Game of Thrones, with both series featuring high-stakes battles and unexpected character deaths.

The influence of Breaking Bad, on the other hand, may provide insight into the show’s use of moral ambiguity and complex character arcs.

With the final season of Attack on Titan set to air in the near future, it remains to be seen how the controversial ending of the manga will be adapted for the small screen. However, with the reveal of Jean as the creator’s favorite hero, fans can look forward to seeing how the character will play a pivotal role in the final battle.
