4 Great Books Based On Video Games
We’ve seen movies based on novels, TV shows based on novels, movies based on video games… and now books? Video games are all the rage these days, and a good book series would have every young reader (and their parents) at the edge of their seats. With so many video game-based books coming out lately, we decided to come up with a list of four that we feel are some of the very best. Of course, some might say it’s not fair to compare one medium’s audience to another’s, but we’ll let you decide for yourself….
1. Kingdom Hearts
The Kingdom Hearts novels are based on one of Square Enix’s most successful video game franchises to date. The first novel, Birth by Sleep, takes place after the events of the original game, while Re:coded focuses on data being encrypted.
2. Gears of War
The Gears of War novels, written by Karen Traviss, have been on the market since 2006, and their story takes place between the original game and the sequel. Traviss has done her homework when it comes to Gears of War, and she’s even met Dustin Black, one of the game’s designers. The novels feature a new character named Anya Stroud, who is a medic and part of Kilo Squad.
3. Halo
The Halo series has also gotten its own book series, with every novel released so far written by Eric Nylund. The books take place between the events of Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2.
4. Assassin’s Creed
The Assassin’s Creed series has been a huge hit with gamers. It even got its own movie in 2016! The first book in the novel series was released in 2009, and the most recent one came out four years ago.
5. God of War
As Kratos, you battled dangerous monsters, made fateful decisions, and eventually defeated the god of war himself – Zeus. Blockbuster movies are getting more and more expensive to make, and with a game like God of War, they don’t really have to worry about it being unable to live up to expectations. The game’s plot was so riveting that it managed to spawn a novel series based on it, which has been around since 2006.
